“Remember when…?” That was always the beginning of a great story about to be told. You knew it and everyone else knew it and you couldn’t wait to chime in with your 2 cents because music touches the soul. Those were the days!
I have recently been on an ABBA kick for some reason (the GOLD album) and really didn’t think about it until now. Why did I keep playing this album everyday and then again sometimes several times a day? It finally dawned on me, this music reminded me of the good times. It brought back a joyful feeling to my soul and reminded me that life was still good. Of course, it also reminded me that I sing off key and dance like a fool when it starts playing. But I digress.
Music plays such an important role in our lives. It comforts us when we need it. It understands us when no one else does. It gives us the words when we are speechless. It celebrates our most exciting moments in life. It ignites our emotions so we know we’re alive. It reminds us of the best or worst memories we’ve ever had. It even teaches us lessons in the lyrics of a good ole country song. Nothing against country music at all, its one of my favorites because of the stories it tells.
Have you ever wondered what impact music has had on your life? Could you go another day without a tune or beat? I know I couldn’t. I require country music to soothe my soul and dance/pop music to move my feet.
What type of music can you absolutely not live without and why?
I would love to hear your selections!

Great post! I love ABBA! As to your question, I don’t know if there is any particular music that I can’t live without, I would have to say, I need all music. As you said, it uplifts us, it reminds us, it invigorates us, it can bring us to our feet or to our knees. It can make us LOL or cry. Music, like all art, touches the Soul in ways innumerable and indescribable. Thanks for reminding me to think of this with this post.
🙂

P.S. Found you on the UBC FB group.
Hey Kathy!
Great to see you here! Yes, music is so much a part of everything we do. What a wonderful way to remember memories and to create new ones.
Blessings,
Dina
I sooooo wanted my hair like the blonde girl in Abba. She was so cool lol. I cant live without R&B, I always said I was a black man trapped in a white womans body. I love Daryl Hall. Toto. Robin Thicke. Lisa Stansfield, …..I could go on and on. Music is the heartbeat of life.
Kate,
Wonderful selections. I love me some R&B too. 🙂
Have a great evening!
Dina
Great reminder. I just realized I hadn’t been listening to a lot of music lately and that’s why my head wasn’t feeling “right”. I love music and singing seems to just blast those negative buggies away. 🙂 Thanks for posting.
Mary,
You’re so welcome! Hope you find just the right tune to uplift your spirits and get you moving. 🙂
Take care,
Dina
When I start getting really agitated and frustrated and just out of sync – I find that if I can put on the headphones and just listen to music for awhile, it will reset me. I have an eclectic taste in music – so there’s no particular kind of music that just really shines above the other. I love indie artists. Right now, Jem and Elliott Yamin and Dido hit my playlist a lot! Love your post – found you via UBC!
MelAnn,
Yay! So glad you liked my post. I’m going to look up your selections and give them a listen to myself. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by,
Dina
Wow, I have not heard ABBA in years. My uncle first introduced me to them when I was a kid with the song Chiquitita. I need to get back to listening to music for pure enjoyment. There has been so much on my brain. But some of the most fulfilling times of my life were when I was performing and practicing and doing all of the fun stuff. I just sold an instrument the other day. I have some different goals now so I’m not sad but I realized reading this that I do miss a part of what I was. Going to my iTunes now to see what I can pull up!!
Robert,
So glad you’re heading over iTunes. 🙂 Sometimes we do just need to take a break from our “adult” responsibilities and just chill with some tunes. Writing this post reminded me as well that I need to include more music in my life. So, I’m going to find some “live” music and see what that feels like. 🙂
All the best,
Dina
