Does it matter who it is?  Of course not.  All that matters is that you believe!

The human race has had many Gods, icons and rituals since the beginning of time.  We are one with each other, yet we are all individuals.  We share a commonality, a connection that exists between us that cannot be explained. Yet we find ourselves in different religions or non-religions for our own personal reasons.  Why is that?  That is a rhetorical question that needs no answer.

To believe in someone or something is to give your trust unconditionally.  You step out on “faith” and allow your beliefs to guide you. It’s a very powerful concept with an extremely powerful effect.

Everyday we put our faith in people and objects we cannot see or feel.  We have merely read about or been taught that this is what we should do.  Yet, here we are existing amoungst each other every second of our lives and have the audacity to turn our backs on our fellow man.  How much could we accomplish together if we only just reached out and offered to help build a school, a new home or invested in the community we live in?  How many people would not go hungry if we each only donated a small amount if food?  How many rain forests (along with the animals who live there) would be saved if we came together and voiced our objections as ONE voice?

In order to unite, we must first realize that even alone, we can make a difference. We can stand up for a just cause even if no one stood with us.  We can take the high road when everyone else took the easy way out. Most importantly, reaching out to a friend in need, a family member in pain or a stranger down on their luck demonstates the purest human way of making a difference.  I believe we each have a gift that the world can benefit from. Some of us have already discovered our gift so it is our duty to help others discover theirs. We must believe in the goodness of each other and help one another succeed in becoming the person we were meant to be.

My personal experience: Even though I have my faith, I am a better person today because of my best friend. She came into my life more than 4 years ago when I needed someone (but didn’t know it at the time). She encouraged me to go out there, take a chance and go after what I wanted in life.  My support system was born. The uncertainty that lay within me lifted immediately.  The fear of the unknown subsided. She believed in me and allowed me to discover that I believed in myself as well. I learned to trust myself and my faith even more.  She touched me so much that I can never personally repay the debt to her other than to take it to the next level. I now encourage, support and mentor other women with an open and unselfish heart. I am there for them whenever they need me and listen whole heartedly.   I believe that the circle of “self-belief” will continue through them.

Who has believed in you?  What difference has it made in your life?  How have you expanded the circle to others?
