This post almost didn’t happened. I almost gave up because I was tired and of course, brain dead. But I decided that I was not going to let myself down by quitting on a commitment I had made and just “get a task done”. So, here I am. 🙂
So how do you keep going when you’re on the verge of giving up? Or your energy is running on empty? Or you can’t remember why  you started in the first place? It’s hard to see the finish line when the excuses sound better than your end goal.  But it’s important to finish what you start so here are some tricks to help you stoke the fire and get a task done so you can keep moving forward.
- Tell someone (get help from someone who knows how to motivate you and inspire you to keep going)
- Take a quick break and do something else (laundry, play video games, etc)
- Wash your face and do some exercises to get the blood moving again
- Play your favorite music and dance around the room
- Put perfection on the back burner (just finish your task, you can always revise later)
- Realize the true importance of your task (the reason you started in the first place)
- Remind yourself of the amazing reward you get when you’re done (sleep, ice-cream, a feeling of accomplishment…whatever works)
I would love to hear what you use to stay motivated and on task.
And I’m off to bed. (My reward) 🙂
All the best,
Coach Dina Blas

Dina,
WELL DONE!!! I think it makes for great posts when it is something that we ourselves have gone through or are going through. It shows that it can be done.
You tips are really great.
As for what I do, it is most of the things you just posted and number 1 is the real biggie for me. As I am talking to someone else (or texting) it rejuvenates me as to what I want to done and keeps my eye on the goal.
I also am really big at rewarding myself and highly recommend that every do that.
The only other thing I do is Positive Self Talk! I keep telling myself I can do it. That it will be easier and quicker than I think. To just do it. How proud of myself I will be when it is done. Etc.
I’m glad you got it done and I hope you now have a restful sleep.
🙂
Kathy
Thank you! I owe this one to you! Sometimes, we all just need a gentle nudge. 🙂 And yes, personal experience is the best teacher.
Take care,
Dina
I’ve used at least 5 of the 7 at some point. Thanks for the reminder. We have to train ourselves to do what’s necessary even when we may not FEEL like it. 🙂
Camara,
Glad to see we do the same things to stay motivated. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by!
Blessings,
Dina
Too funny! my blog post today is about this very same thing. Taking action – although I forgot to include a great reward (like ice cream) I hope you had yours?
Loralee,
I did have my reward…sleep! 🙂 It was well worth it. 🙂
Take care,
Dina
